Literary, non-fictional, creative-critical writing open to different media and modes; not only as an end in itself, but as a research method in the Humanities and in the Arts.
Passage is een transdisciplinair onderzoeksproject aan de Faculteit Architectuur en Kunst van de Universiteit Hasselt. Het project focust op hoe literaire non-fictie en creatief-kritisch schrijven valabele methodes kunnen zijn binnen artistiek en cultuurwetenschappelijk onderzoek, via verschillende media en uitdrukkingsvormen.
Passage situeert zich op het punt waar artistieke, architecturale of theoretische praktijken kruisen met belichaamde, subjectieve ervaringen. Ervaringen van het alledaagse leven, uit onze persoonlijke binnen- en buitenwerelden.
Van hieruit willen we een actieve koppeling maken met bestaande culturele tradities (millennia oud, of net uit de mode); we willen met hen aan de haal gaan, en hen toelaten met ons aan de haal te gaan. We gebruiken deze anachronistische energie om voorbije praktijken en cultuurvormen van een nieuwe context te voorzien, om ze te laten gedijen in nieuwe grond, om vorm te geven aan andere bestaanswijzen.
Passage wil een bescheiden corridor zijn waar je elkaar kan ontmoeten om ideeën, praktijken en ervaringen uit te wisselen. Vandaar dat we op zoek zijn naar voorbijgangers: documentaire-makers, erfgoedwerkers, kunstenaars, schrijvers.
Op academisch gebied verwelkomen we voorstellen voor mogelijk doctoraatsonderzoek in de volgende uiteenlopende domeinen: artistieke genealogie, autotheorie, existentiële fenomenologie, literaire technieken, mythopoësis, mythologie, strategieën van vorm- en zingeving, dagelijkse (on)huiselijkheid, religieus erfgoed, onderzoek-als-kunstpraktijk.
We situate ourselves at the crossover where artistic, architectural, and theoretical practices meet embodied experience, subjectivity, life-as-is, our very own inner and outer environments.
From this position, we pursue an active relation with existing cultural traditions (millennia old, or only just outmoded); taking them out for a walk, letting them walk us, too. We want to tap into anachrony, recontextualising practices and forms from the past to thrive anew, carve other modes of existence.
Passage is a very modest project, a corridor to meet and exchange ideas, practices, and experiences. Hence, we seek passerbys: heritage workers, artists, writers, documentary makers.
On an academic level, we welcome expressions of interest in PhD research in the following areas: artistic lineages, autotheory, existential phenomenology, literariness, mythopoesis, mythology, meaning-making strategies, quotidian (un)domesticity, religious heritage, research-as-art-practice.
